Attention to detail

When you double-check your calculations for a math problem or cite sources carefully in a research paper, you’re paying close attention to detail. That skill comes in handy in any workplace, whether you maintain a database, keep a log of the hours you spend with clients or write e-mails.

John Wooden, UCLA’s former great basketball coach who lead his teams to ten consecutive national championships, was asked what he attributed his success to. Among a number of things, he mentioned that paying attention to detail was one of the most important qualities for successful coaching and for high achievement in any worthwhile pursuit. He even paid attention to how his players would lace up and tie their shoe strings. If they didn’t tie them correctly, he would teach them how.

Details may be small things, but from small things come great things; therefore, pay attention to details and you will experience substantial progress in your overall educational attainment.

You could someday find yourself meeting tight deadlines, speaking with irate customers, wielding a scalpel or handling dangerous chemicals.

The best way to curtail pressure and to even eliminate it is to prepare. Applying the motto “Be prepared” holds true first time and every time. Prepare for that test, and you wont worry about i. in fact, it will be your chance to shine, to reveal the hard work you have put into preparing for the test. You will be rewarded for the effort you have thrust into your studies. Preparation removes fear. When you are prepared, you will not fear. Preparation helps you maintain your cool under pressure. Preparation generates energy and enthusiasm;  therefore, prepare and your coolness under pressure is sure to abound

Problem Solving skills

Problem solving skills
4 of 10
Problem solving goes far beyond your textbook. Every assignment is an opportunity to weigh all possible solutions carefully and choose the one you think is best. As a working professional, you’ll be solving problems regularly, whether its fixing a bug in a computer program or overcoming budget shortfalls. Problem solving situations occur extensively and frequently; therefore, be ready when then come.
When problems or challenges occur, some people look at them at negative experiences, as a crisis. These people are the ones who live day by day with gloom and negativism in their attitudes. But the really successful people, those who are cheerful and optimistic, are thos who loom at problems , opportunities to learn, grow, expand their horizons, and make new discoveries. They look on the bright side of things and live happy lives .

When you’re assigned a class presentation, think twice before dismissing it as an unimportant part if your education. Employers look for speaking skills in job applicants, who may have to give presentations to clients or represent their organization in the field. It’s never too soon to practice good eye contact and other public speaking techniques
According to book of lists, the fear of public speaking ranks number one in the minds of majority of people. Far above the fear death and disease, comes the fear of standing in front of a crowd. Joel Wiener author and speaker wants to help people overcome that fear.
The biggest fear is public speaking, with 15 present of American experience a dramatic fear of it,” said Dr  Michael teach of the laboratory for the study of anxiety disorders in the department of psychology at the university of Texas at Austin. People have had to turn down jobs, and certainly students have dropped classes because of it.”
Regardless of your occupation, your access depends a great deal upon your ability to communicate effectively! Whether you’re running a meeting, selling a product, making a presentation, motivating co-workers or just communicating one-on-one with others, you’ll get far better results if you can speak persuasively, smoothly and intelligently

·       Look for facts you know or can check with a trusted source. If the site gets those facts right, it’s more likely that the facts on the site are also accurate.

·       Study the language used. Is it angry, satiric or overly impassioned? This may indicate that the site is biased.

·       Consider whether the arguments are logical and backed up by evidence, and whether the site presents only one point of view.

Using the web wisely
Thanks to the web, information is easy to find however, it’s also easy to post something online. Anyone can do it.
You’ve probably used the internet to do research for your paper, to help you decide which product to buy, or to form an opinion about current events. Looking up information online is fast and convenient. But when you do online research, it’s important to find sites you can trust.
Many websites claim to have the facts, but are full of errors. Others present information in a biased way--- they only give one side of an argument. How can you tell a reliable source from an unreliable one? Also, it is critical that you post online only that which is decent and appropriate, never anything pornographic, vulgar, indecent, out of taste. Post those things that will make a good name for you and your organization, that will promote goodwill and be of benefit to the world

Reading
5 tips for success
Reading and writing and writing go hand in hand. The better you understand a text, the more likely you are to successfully communicate your thoughts about it in writing. So its important to develop strong skills in both areas. With that in mind, here’s how to improve your reading comprehension.
Tips 1-2
Tip 1: annotate
Be an active reader, instead of passively reading a text, take notes about important story elements, key factual information and significant ideas in text
Tip 2: note the authors writing style
Every author writes with a purpose, using deliberate methods to successfully relate specific information to the audience. When you’re reading,  look for patterns in the authors writing. For example, you may notice a repetition of key words, phrases or symbols --- or the use of a distinct type of sentence structure. Authors employ these writing strategies to help readers comprehend a central argument or theme, so be sure to explore how these techniques create meaning.

That’s a plus, because the focus on the written  word gives you the opportunity to develop  as a writer- and strong writing skills are essential to academic success. However, if writing serious weakness for you, virtual learning may not be the best educational option until you improve your skills. Most of your assignments will be and submitted to the instructor in the written format. Your partnership needs to be excellent, spelling great, sentence structure above average, vocabulary extraordinary. You need to have online access with reliable equipment. Of your Internet communications at home isn’t working, you can’t do online education from home and will need to go to someplace where you do have access to the Internet.

In a distance-learning classroom, you may be able to participate in class discussions online in chat rooms, message boards or Web conferences – but it’s not the same as being with other students in a classroom.

·       Different levels of quality: Many distance-education programs supply and excellent learning experience, but others may not. Research any program before signing on to make sure it’s rigorous enough. If you are choosing your own program, look into its accreditation before enrolling.

·       The need to self-start: Distance education lets you make your own schedules. If you have time getting motivated, this might not be the ideal education setting for you

Balancing High school and Part-Time Work
Additional Tips
Although working and going to school is challenging, it can be a rewarding experience if you use some foresight. These tips can help you handle the situation and make the most of your time:
·       Start slowly; don’t commit to working a lot of hours immediately.
·       Avoid time conflicts by planning your class and work schedule’s as far ahead as possible.
·       Use your time efficiently. You can use 10 minutes waiting in a line to go over a few pages of assigned reading. If your job has a lot of downtime and your boss has no objection, you can use slow periods to do schoolwork
·       If you commute to your job on public transportation, bring your school work with you so you can work along the way.
·       Be flexible to make sacrifices. You may have to cut down on some other things you’d like to do because of your school work and work commitments.
·       If you have too much on your plate, admit it. Then cut back as needed.
·       Schedule relaxation time. Everyone needs some downtime to stay happy and healthy.

Selecting Your Courses

Selecting Your Courses
The Arts

Research indicates that students who participate in the arts often do better in school and on standardized tests. The arts help you recognize patterns, discern differences and similarities, and exercise your mind in unique ways, often outside a traditional classroom setting.

Many colleges require or recommend one or two semesters in the arts. Good choices include studio art, dance, music and drama. Many students have talents and extraordinary abilities in the arts. Students should look within their own repertoire of talents and identify their artistic abilities and take college classes to develop their talents.

Advanced placement Program (AP)

To be sure you are ready to take on college-level work, enroll in the most challenging courses you can in high school, such as honors or AP courses. Research consistently shows that students who score a 3.0 or higher on a AP Exam typically experience greater academic success and college graduation rates than students who don’t take AP.

Work hard in you righteous pursuits, and you will reap the benefits of self-fulfillment and job satisfaction. Don’t take shortcuts just to “get by,” instead, take challenging and difficult roads (courses) and reach higher peaks mountain peaks of achievement.

Set Sail

'Tis the Set of the Sail
Ella Wheeler Wilcox 1916
But to every mind there openeth,
A way, and a way, and away.
A high soul climb the highway,
And the low soul gropes the low,
And in between on the misty flats,
The rest drift to and fro.

But to every man there openeth,
A High way and a low,
And every mind dicideth,
The way his soul shall go

One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same wind that blow,
'Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.
Like the winds of the sea
Are the waves of time,
As we journey along through life,
'Tis the set of soul,
That determines the goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

Writing helps you focus and make good decisions.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 7 Part 1
Habits 7: Sharpen the Saw
Teens should never get too busy living to take time to renew them. When teens “sharpen the saw” they are keeping their personal self-sharp so that they can better deal with life. It means regularly renewing and strengthening the four key dimensions of life—body, mind, heart and soul
1.  Body. Fat wholesome food, fruits, vegetables, legumes. Avoid illegal drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Get plenty of rest at night. Get to bed early at night and get up early each morning. “Early to bed early to rise make a man, healthy, wealthy, and wise.”
2.  Mind. Think positively. Read. Study. Think. Analyze. Seek to read a good book each month. Then each week. Ask intelligent questions. Observe. Develop your mind through positive “self-talk”

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much"
Helen Keller
Ellen Keller is making a wonderful statement. She is saying that us as humans can accomplish so little alone. But with one or more people The sky is the limit. We can accomplish what ever we want.

7 Habits of a Successful Tenn Habit 6

Habit 6: Synergize
Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Though this habit, teens learn it doesn't have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy is the reward, the delicious food you’ll taste as living the other habits, especially at thinking Win- Win and seeking first to understand. Learning to synergize is like learning to form V formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and further you’ll go. Synergy doesn't just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the foundation of getting there is this: learn to celebrate differences.
A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, it’s all of them together that make up the “sound”. Each band member brings his or her strengths to the table to create something better than each could alone. No instrument is more important than another, just different.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens Habit 5

5. Seek first to understand, and then to be understood
Because most of the people don’t listen very well, one of the great frustration in life is that many don’t fell understood. This habit ill ensure your teens learns the most important communication skill there is: active listing.
Why is this habit the key to communication? It’s because the deepest need of the human heart is to be understood. Everyone wants to be respected and valued for who they are-a unique, one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-cloned individual. People won’t expose their soft middles unless they feel it, however, they will tell you more than you may want to hear. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
Listen with your eyes, heart, and ears. 7 percent of communication is contained in the words we use. The rest comes from body language (53 percent) and how we say words, or the tone and feeling reflected in our voice (40 percent).
Most people are eager to talk and had rather talk than listen. We have one mouth and two ears. This means we should listen twice as much as well we talk. We actually learn more while listening rather than we talk. Learn to listen to learn.
Listen, really listen for understanding. Seek first to understand then to be understood-listen.
